Personal Statement

Personal statement for the offer. the scholarship. the admission. the place.

Personal statements written in your voice by specialists who know what UCAS, Common App, and postgraduate admissions panels actually read for, built to win the seat and the scholarship.

This is for you if...

You are applying for a course, a scholarship, or a place that competes with hundreds of others. You may be:

A UCAS applicant writing one personal statement that goes to five UK universities.

A US Common App applicant trying to fit your whole story into 650 words.

A postgraduate applicant whose statement of purpose must convince the admissions committee in 1,000 words.

A scholarship applicant where the personal essay carries equal weight to your transcripts.

Four destinations, four different statements

Every destination has its own word limit, conventions, and tells. A statement that wins UCAS is the wrong statement for US grad school. We write for your specific destination.

DESTINATION 1

UCAS UK undergraduate

4,000 characters · 47 lines

Goes to all five universities you list. Must demonstrate genuine interest in the subject, transferable skills, and academic readiness. UK admissions tutors read for substance, not flair.

DESTINATION 2

US Common App

650 words

Goes to multiple US colleges with one essay. Must reveal character through a specific story. US admissions read for authentic voice, narrative arc, and what kind of campus citizen you will be.

DESTINATION 3

Postgraduate SOP

500 to 1,500 words

Statement of Purpose for Masters and PhD programmes. Must articulate research interests, why this department, what makes you ready for postgraduate work. Different again from undergraduate writing.

DESTINATION 4

Scholarship statement

200 to 1,000 words depending on funder

Chevening, Commonwealth, Rhodes, Fulbright, Mastercard Foundation. Each funder has different prompts and different things they fund. Generic statements lose. We write for the specific funder.

The narrative arc that wins offers

Strong personal statements follow an arc. Not a list of achievements. Not a CV in paragraph form. A narrative that builds toward why this place, why now.

10%

Hook

Two or three sentences that earn the reader the next paragraph. Specific moment, sharp question, contrarian claim. Not “I have always been passionate about…”

30%

Background

The story behind the subject. Real moments that explain why this discipline. Specific projects, courses, experiences. Concrete, not abstract.

30%

Why this course

Why this exact programme, this exact university, this exact moment. Named modules, named faculty, named opportunities. Generic admiration fails.

20%

Future plan

Where this degree takes you. Concrete career direction, contribution to your field, what you will do after. The “why us” answer for the admissions panel.

10%

Closing

One paragraph that lands the case. Echoes the hook. Leaves the reader with one clear image or argument.

Opening hooks that earn the next paragraph

The opening 30 words decide whether a panel keeps reading. We use five proven hook formulas depending on your story. Not the tired ones every other applicant uses.

HOOK 1

The specific moment

Start with a precise scene. A specific time, place, decision. Reader is transported in the first sentence.

“The patient asked me a question I could not answer, and I went home and read about heart failure until 3am.”

HOOK 2

The sharp question

Open with the question that has driven your thinking. Reader wants to know how you answer it.

“What would a hospital look like if it was designed by the people who use it, not the people who run it?”

HOOK 3

The contrarian claim

State a position that pushes back on conventional thinking. Reader leans in to find out if you can defend it.

“Economics taught me less about money than philosophy did.”

HOOK 4

The lived contrast

Set up a tension between two things in your life. Reader wants the resolution.

“My father was a tailor. I am applying to study computer science. Both jobs are about pattern recognition.”

HOOK 5

The artifact

Open with a concrete object that carries meaning. Reader knows there is a story behind it.

“The textbook on my desk is older than I am. It belonged to my mother before she was forced to stop her education.”

Hooks we will not write

“From a young age I have been passionate about…” · “Webster's dictionary defines…” · “I have always known I wanted to be…” · “Ever since I can remember…”. Admissions panels read these in 80 percent of statements. They are the reason a strong applicant gets filtered.

Your voice, not a generator

Generic AI essays sound the same to admissions panels because they ARE the same. Every applicant feeding their notes into ChatGPT gets the same vocabulary, the same sentence rhythms, the same predictable arc. Panels filter them out in a paragraph.

Our position

An admissions panel can read a thousand statements. They can spot AI in two paragraphs. They can only spot your voice if we capture it first.

We do not paste your notes into a generator. We interview you. We listen for the specific way you describe a moment, the words you use without thinking, the rhythm of how you tell stories. Then we write the statement in that voice.

The result reads like you on your best day. Not like ChatGPT pretending to be you.

Our voice-match promise

If the first draft does not sound like you wrote it, tell us. We rewrite until the voice is right. No charge. We run every statement through Turnitin, GPTZero, Originality AI, and Copyleaks before delivery and share the report with you.

Our commitment to your work

We cannot guarantee a specific mark. No academic writing service honestly can. A mark depends on factors beyond any writer's control: the marker's expectations on the day, the specific rubric weighting, the moderator's review, the external examiner's preferences.

What we can guarantee is the quality of what we hand you BEFORE you submit it.

Our commitment

  • Every chapter is written to distinction-grade standard in our internal assessment before it leaves our team
  • We run pre-submission AI detection and plagiarism checks on every chapter, share the reports with you, and rewrite anything that flags
  • We deliver one round of free revisions based on your supervisor's feedback
  • We do not deliver work that we would not stake our twelve-year reputation on
  • If at any stage you feel the work is not at the standard we promised, we revise until you are confident enough to submit

This commitment is the same one we have honoured since 2014. It is why over 1,200 students have trusted us with their dissertations.

FOUNDER

Taiwo Oladokun

Founder & Head of Specialists, Delight Data Exploration

DDE started in 2014 with one writer (me) taking on dissertation chapters for Nigerian postgraduates who were drowning at UK universities. The work paid off. Word spread. One writer became eight specialists.

Twelve years later, I still personally match every client to the right specialist. I still read first drafts. I still answer the WhatsApp messages at half past ten at night when a dissertation deadline is forty hours away. If you bring me your brief, I am the person who decides whether we can deliver. If we can, you get a small team who treat your degree like it is theirs. If we cannot, I tell you upfront.

Common questions

How much does a personal statement cost?

We do not publish fixed prices because every dissertation brief is different. Variables include word count, deadline, subject complexity, referencing style, and your stage of the project. Bring your brief, your deadline, and your budget to the free consultation. We tell you exactly what is possible.

Yes. Every dissertation is human-written by our specialists, not AI-generated. We test our work against the same tools your university uses (Turnitin, GPTZero, Originality AI, Copyleaks) BEFORE we deliver, share the reports with you, and rewrite anything that flags. Twelve years of zero plagiarism incidents.

Most likely yes. Three weeks is enough time for two to three chapters at standard turnaround, or a complete short-form dissertation with rush turnaround applied. Send your brief today and we tell you exactly what is possible by your deadline.

We expect this. Supervisor pivots are normal. One round of revisions is included free in your project price. If the pivot is substantial (new research questions, new methodology), we quote the additional work upfront so you can decide.

You pay through our secured payment gateway via card, bank transfer, or Paystack. We do not require full payment upfront. We typically work in milestones: a deposit to begin, balance on delivery, with longer projects split across more milestones.

No. Confidentiality is absolute. Our specialist who writes your work signs a non-disclosure agreement. Your work is delivered to your private email only. We do not publish your name, your university, or your topic. The work is yours from the moment we hand it over.

Stop getting filtered. Start getting offers.

You have a deadline. You have an admissions panel waiting. You have a place, a scholarship, or your future career trajectory riding on this statement. Twelve years and 1,200-plus clients later, we know what gets accepted.
