Camp is loading.
If you are in the 2026 Batch B Stream I, your orientation starts on the 10th of June. Three weeks of early mornings, white shorts, and stories you will be telling for years.
And if this is your first time, abeg let me gist you small before you pack that bag.
Camp is not as scary as the stories make it sound. But it is not a holiday either. The people who enjoy NYSC camp 2026 are the ones who go in prepared. So let us get you ready.
First, what is camp actually about?
NYSC camp is the three week orientation that every corps member must attend before being posted to a place of primary assignment.
For Batch B Stream I, the swearing-in holds on the 12th of June, and the orientation runs until the 30th of June.
You will be in a closed camp. That means you wake up early, you do drills, you sit through lectures, and you sleep in a hostel with plenty other corps members.
It can be stressful. But it is also where many people make friends that last for life. Some even meet their husband or wife there. Na true.
Pack smart, not heavy
This is where many first timers get it wrong. They pack their whole wardrobe and still forget the things that matter.
Here is what you actually need:
- White round neck T-shirts and white shorts. Carry more than one set, you will sweat.
- White tennis shoes or sneakers, plus the pair NYSC gives you.
- A pair of rubber slippers for the bathroom.
- Light clothes for the evening, nothing flashy.
- Your toiletries, a towel, and a small padlock for your box.
- A torch or rechargeable lamp, because light is not always steady.
- A power bank, since charging points are always crowded.
- Basic medicines: malaria drugs, pain relief, and your own prescriptions.
- A small first aid kit and hand sanitiser.
Pack light. You will be moving around a lot, and a heavy box becomes punishment by day two.
The documents you must not forget
If you forget your documents, you can be sent back home. No joke.
Carry the original and at least four photocopies of each:
- Your printed call-up letter. This is the most important one.
- Your degree certificate or statement of result.
- Your NYSC green card.
- Your ID card and passport photographs. Carry plenty, around eight.
- Your bank details for the monthly allowance.
Keep everything in one clear folder so you are not searching while the queue is long. You can confirm the full registration checklist on the official NYSC portal before you travel.
The daily routine, and how to survive it
Camp wakes up very early. We are talking 4am bugle, then morning drills before the sun is fully out.
Your day will fill up with parade practice, lectures, and SAED skill sessions.
Here is the small secret: do not fight the system. The people who suffer most are the ones always trying to dodge. Just flow with it and the three weeks will pass faster than you think.
Eat at mami market when the camp food is not agreeing with you, but mind your spending. Drink plenty water. Rest when you can. And please, make friends. Camp is sweeter when you are not doing it alone.
Your money, your safety, your health
Corps members now earn ₦77,000 every month from the federal government, up from the old ₦33,000. Your state of deployment may add a little on top.
But the allowance does not always land in the first week, so carry enough money to hold you through the early days of NYSC camp 2026.
On safety, NYSC has warned everyone to avoid night travel to camp. Move in the day, plan your journey early, and let someone know your movement. The service is also mobilising 450,000 graduates this year, so camps will be full. Go early and beat the rush.
For your health, the camp clinic is there if you fall sick. Do not form strong man. Report early.
Do not waste your service year
Here is the part nobody tells you enough.
NYSC camp 2026 is only three weeks. But your service year is twelve full months. That is a whole year that can either pass you by, or set you up for life.
Plenty Nigerian graduates are now using the service year to learn a skill and start earning in dollars. We wrote a full guide on how Nigerian graduates can start earning dollars before NYSC, and it works just as well during your service.
You can also build income without leaving the country. Our piece on how to earn in dollars from Nigeria without japa breaks down the remote options.
And while you are at it, fix your LinkedIn. Our 30 minute Friday fix shows you how to make your profile actually pull jobs instead of gathering dust.
Use the year well. Do not just collect your alawee and let the rest slip away.
A few honest last tips
- Greet people, both officials and fellow corps members. Good manners carry you far in camp.
- Keep your phone and money close, or padlocked. Camp has plenty people, and not all of them are saints.
- Buy your kit early from the camp market if the free NYSC sizes do not fit.
- Take pictures. You will laugh at them later.
- Rest well before you travel. Camp is much easier when you are not already tired.
