How to Change Email on JAMB Portal in 2026: You Only Get One Chance

Since Monday, 21 September 2026, JAMB will let you change the email address or phone number on your profile. You get to do it once.

Not once a year, and not once per exam. JAMB says each candidate can use the service only one time, so whatever you type into that box at the centre is what your profile carries from then on.

You may be thinking you’ll just rush there this week, sort it out, and fix any small mistake later. There is no later. That’s the whole reason this post exists.

What JAMB actually changed

For years JAMB refused to swap a candidate’s registered SIM or change their email, because changing those details was an easy way for somebody else to take over a profile. If you lost the line or the email, you were mostly stuck.

JAMB now says its biometric checks are strong enough to allow the change safely, so it has opened a controlled route for candidates who genuinely lost access. The new rule took effect on 21 September 2026, and it comes with three conditions you can’t skip:

  • It’s done in person, only at designated JAMB CBT centres (the ones JAMB calls PTC and PRC centres) and at JAMB state offices where they apply.
  • You need a sworn court affidavit supporting the change, scanned and ready to upload.
  • Your biometrics are checked against your record before anything changes, and each candidate gets the service once.

The mistake that brought most people here

In August a candidate messaged us because she had an admission offer and couldn’t get into her own JAMB profile to look at it. We spent a long time on password resets before the real problem came out: she had never known the email on the profile at all.

The CBT centre that registered her had typed in an email address of its own, and nobody gave her the password. So every Forgot Password page asked her for the one thing she didn’t have, and it looked broken to her.

A few weeks later a graduate lost more than a week to a reset that kept telling him the format was wrong, and he couldn’t even be sure which email JAMB had on file for him.

Both of them could now fix this properly. And both of them could burn their only chance in about two minutes, if they walked into the centre and let somebody type another address they don’t control.

Before you go: what to have ready

  • Your login details for the JAMB e-Facility portal. Your profile code or registration number, plus the email or phone that’s on the profile now, even if you can’t open that email any more.
  • The new phone number, on a SIM in your own name. Not your brother’s line, not a line you’re borrowing until next month.
  • A new email you created yourself, on your own phone. Log into it twice before the day, and write the password in the back of a notebook.
  • The court affidavit, scanned. JAMB’s own video says to get it from a High Court. A clear scan or PDF on your phone is what you’ll upload.
  • Money for the fee. It’s paid on the portal before you go, and we cover the amount below.

How to change email on JAMB portal, step by step

This is the order JAMB gave in its statement and in the video on its official X account. How to change email on JAMB portal and how to swap your SIM is the same process, and you choose which one you need near the end.

  1. Get the sworn affidavit from a High Court and scan it.
  2. Log into your JAMB e-Facility profile with your existing details.
  3. Find the SIM swap and email change payment option. JAMB’s video shows it under the Penalties menu, as “SIM Swap/Email Change Penalty Payment”.
  4. Pay the fee shown on that page.
  5. Go to a designated JAMB CBT centre or state office. Ask for the SIM swap and email change service.
  6. Give your profile code or your existing phone number, so the officer can fetch your details.
  7. Do the biometric check. This is why nobody can do it for you from a shop.
  8. Choose what you’re changing: phone number only, email only, or both.
  9. Enter the new number or email, upload the scanned affidavit, and wait for the confirmation message on the screen.

Before you leave that centre, read the new email back letter by letter. One missing letter in an address is exactly the kind of thing that locked people out in the first place.

What candidates do, and what to do instead

What candidates do: let the operator at the centre create a fresh email for them, because it’s faster.

Do this instead: create the email yourself before you go, open it on your own phone, and only give the officer an address you have already logged into.

What candidates do: change only the email, even though the SIM on the profile is also a line they rarely have.

Do this instead: if the phone number is shaky too, choose both in the same visit. You won’t get a second visit to fix the part you left.

What candidates do: pay somebody on WhatsApp or in a business centre who says they can do the change online.

Do this instead: go to a designated JAMB centre yourself. JAMB says the service isn’t available anywhere else, and you have to be there in person for the biometric check.

When you should not use it at all

If you still have the SIM on your profile, you probably don’t need to change email on JAMB portal at all. The text message routes still work from that number: RESEND to get your profile code back, and PASSWORD followed by your email to reset the password. We explain both in our guide to getting back into a JAMB profile after losing the email and password.

Keep the one-time change for when the line or the email is really gone. And if you have an offer waiting on CAPS, don’t sit on a locked profile, because JAMB has moved the window to accept or reject old offers to Monday 30 November 2026. The full detail is in our post on the JAMB acceptance deadline, and once you’re back in, this guide explains what each CAPS status means.

What we could not confirm

We couldn’t find what it costs to change email on JAMB portal. JAMB’s statement only says you pay “the prescribed fee”, and none of the reports we checked gives an amount that JAMB itself published. So we’re not going to quote one. The portal shows the fee before you pay, and that page is the only figure to trust.

We also can’t tell you which centre near you is designated. Ask at your nearest JAMB state office, or check JAMB’s official X account, before you travel. The announcement was carried by Vanguard on 21 September, and JAMB walked through the steps in its video on X.

Na one chance be this o, use am well.
