The 2026 admission process is approaching, so this is the right time to understand JAMB CAPS before offers begin to appear. Here is everything you need to check your status, understand what you are seeing, and lock in your admission properly.
What is JAMB CAPS and why should you care?
CAPS stands for Central Admissions Processing System. It is the platform JAMB uses to process every admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Here is the part many candidates do not understand. Your school can put your name on an admission list, send you a message, even collect acceptance fee from you. If that admission does not show on CAPS, JAMB does not recognise it.
In simple terms, CAPS is where admission becomes real. Everything else is just noise until CAPS confirms it.
How to check your admission status on JAMB CAPS 2026
Checking your admission status on JAMB CAPS 2026 takes less than five minutes:
- Go to the JAMB eFacility portal and sign in with the email and password you used during registration.
- Click on Check Admission Status.
- Select your exam year and enter your registration number.
- Click Access my CAPS.
- Select Admission Status from the menu.
If you are using a phone and the page refuses to load properly, open your browser menu and tick Desktop site. CAPS was built for computers, so that one small setting fixes most of the wahala people complain about.

What each status message actually means
Admission in progress. Your institution is still processing your case. Nobody has rejected you. Keep checking.
Recommended. Your school has proposed you for admission and JAMB is reviewing it. You are close.
Not admitted. No offer yet. Painful to see, but it is not the end of the road. We will talk about your options below.
Congratulations, you have been offered provisional admission. This is the message you are praying for. Once you see it, you have work to do immediately.
Accept or reject: the click that seals everything
Once you get an offer, CAPS will show you two buttons, Accept and Reject. This step is compulsory. Paying school fees does not replace it. Collecting a letter from the school does not replace it. Until you click Accept, JAMB has not officially admitted you.
You can accept in two ways. On the portal, log in, open your admission status page, and click Accept. By SMS, send ACCEPT to 55019 or 66019 from the same phone number you used to register with JAMB.
One warning before you click anything. Accepting an offer closes the admission process for you this year, so be sure it is what you want. Rejecting keeps you available for other offers, but do not reject in anger without a plan. Think it through, talk to someone you trust, then click once.
And please do not sit on an offer for weeks. Offers do not wait forever, and some institutions quietly move to the next candidate when you delay.
Not admitted yet? The Marketplace is your second chance
Inside JAMB CAPS 2026 there is a feature called the Marketplace. Institutions that still have empty spaces use it to pick candidates who have not been admitted anywhere, or who rejected an earlier offer.
If your status has been sitting on Not admitted for a long time, the Marketplace can put you in front of schools you never applied to. You may need to be flexible about the course or the institution, but flexible beats sitting at home for a whole year.

The mistakes that cost candidates admission every year
Waiting for an SMS. JAMB will not always text you. An offer can sit on CAPS for weeks while you wait for a message that is not coming. Check the portal yourself.
Trusting the school list alone. Your name on a notice board is not admission. CAPS is admission.
Rejecting with no plan. Some candidates reject an offer they feel is too small, then nothing else comes. Reject only when you have a clear next step.
Missing O level results. If you wrote WASSCE this year, WAEC has finished marking and results are expected in the first week of August. Upload yours the moment they are out, because no institution can complete your admission without them.
Forgotten login details. If a cafe attendant registered you and you cannot access that email, sort it out now, not on the day an offer lands.
While you wait, prepare like a person who expects to resume
Checking CAPS twice a week is enough. Refreshing it every thirty minutes will not change anything, it will only raise your blood pressure 😀
