How to accept admission on JAMB CAPS 2026
- Open the JAMB e-Facility portal and sign in with the email address linked to your JAMB profile.
- Choose Check Admission Status, select 2026 and enter your registration number if the portal asks for it.
- Open Access My CAPS, then choose Admission Status.
- Read the institution and course carefully before selecting Accept Admission.
- Save or print the admission letter after acceptance and check that your details match your school record.
The live CAPS dashboard showed 120,558 cumulative admissions and 47,934 accepted admissions on 24 August 2026. Those figures keep moving. If your offer is available, answer it instead of waiting for the total to rise.
JAMB now has a rule that can lock you out of university admission, and not just for this year. Accept your offer late, and the system can mark you as someone who refused admission. That marking can make you ineligible to be admitted again.
This is not a rumour. It came out of the 2026 JAMB policy meeting in Abuja, and it is sitting inside CAPS right now while the 2026 admission season runs.
Two clocks are ticking at the same time. One is the new four week window on fresh offers. The other is the JAMB acceptance deadline of 31 August 2026 for old offers from past years, and that one is ten days away.
Let us take them one at a time.
The four week rule, in plain words
Once a school offers you admission and JAMB approves it on CAPS, you have four weeks to accept it.
Not four weeks from when you happen to check. Four weeks from when the offer is approved, whether you saw it or not.
JAMB stated it directly at the policy meeting, as reported by BusinessDay: there will be a grace period of four weeks within which all approved admissions must be accepted by the candidates. After that, the school can ask for the admission to be deleted, and you drop into what JAMB calls the refusal to accept category.
In previous years, an offer could sit on CAPS for months while a candidate weighed options or simply forgot to log in. That era is over.
Old offers from 2020 to 2025: the 31 August deadline
The second clock touches far more people than they realise.
JAMB has warned that candidates holding pending admission offers from the 2020 to 2025 cycles must accept or reject them before 31 August 2026 or risk forfeiting them entirely. Vanguard carried the warning directly from JAMB itself.
Maybe you got an offer in 2023 for a course you did not want and just ignored it. Maybe you travelled, deferred in your mind but never on the portal, or switched to another school informally. If any offer is still sitting there unanswered, the JAMB acceptance deadline of 31 August applies to you.
Log in this week. Not on the 30th.
Why refusal to accept is a serious label
Here is the part that deserves your full attention.
When an admission is deleted because you did not accept in time, JAMB does not just quietly remove it. The candidate is placed in the refusal to accept category, and JAMB says that status is punishable by ineligibility to be admitted again.
Read that again slowly. Ignoring an offer is no longer a neutral act. In the eyes of the system, it can look like rejecting admission, and rejecting by silence carries a heavier cost than rejecting properly through the portal.
If you genuinely do not want an offer, use the reject button. A clean rejection keeps your record straight. Silence does not.
How to check what CAPS is holding for you
Everything above lives inside CAPS, the Central Admissions Processing System, and checking takes minutes.
Log in through the JAMB e-facility portal with your registration details, open CAPS, and look at your admission status. If an offer is waiting, you will see the accept and reject options beside it.

One more reason accepting matters: your acceptance on CAPS is part of what puts you on the official matriculation list later, and that list is the one check that decides your NYSC years down the line. A missed acceptance today can resurface as a mobilisation problem after graduation.
The schedule your school is working to
The four week rule sits inside a wider timetable, and knowing it helps you predict when offers will drop.
Public universities must conclude their admissions on or before 31 October 2026. Private universities have until 30 November. Polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and colleges of nursing have until 31 December.
Any school that fails to finish inside its window loses access to its candidates on CAPS. So schools have their own pressure, and it means offers will come in waves between now and year end rather than trickling into March like before.
The competition behind those offers is real. Lagos State University alone drew 84,426 applicants this cycle, with the University of Lagos at 78,240 and Obafemi Awolowo University at 60,370. Every seat you are slow to accept has a queue behind it.
Still waiting for an offer? Do this instead
If CAPS shows nothing yet, the JAMB acceptance deadline is not your worry today, but positioning is.
Make sure your O level results are uploaded and correct on the portal. Watch your first choice school’s admission news directly, not through group chats. And if your screening score fell short, read what to do if you missed the Post UTME cut off mark, because the options are wider than people think.
Then set a simple habit: check CAPS twice a week from now until your admission is settled. Monday and Thursday. That rhythm alone makes the four week window almost impossible to miss.
Deadline season is scam season
Every deadline in the Nigerian admission calendar pulls out the same crowd.
People will offer to accept your admission for you for a fee. Sites that look almost like the JAMB portal will ask for your profile details. Someone will promise to reverse a refusal to accept status for money.
Accepting an offer on CAPS is free. It needs no agent, no runs man, and no special connection. Anybody asking for money to press that button for you is feeding on your fear of the deadline.
